I have read many books that have touched and inspired me, but few have made me sit back and say, "Wow. Mind blown."
This is one of those books.
I started this book shortly after it came out, and could not finish it. I wasn't in the right place, I suppose.
A couple of months ago, I started it again and this time, my soul was ready to feed on its goodness. I have been taking it chapter by chapter, trying to process all of the information that I can.
I will tell you this, if you think you know or understand the Atonement of Jesus Christ completely, you don't. I don't think any of us will ever truly comprehend this great gift in our lives until our work on this earth is completed. When our minds are free to understand things of an eternal nature, then we will be able to fully understand this gift of all gifts.
Until that time, it is our responsibility to study the Atonement as often as we can.
It is also our responsibility to utilize the Atonement every single day of our lives.
I have only made my way to Chapter 5 because I have found that I have to read this book when I can have a quiet moment so that I can try and soak it in. I don't have very many quiet moments in my life, so I don't read it as often as I would like to. That's okay though. I am not in a race to finish it. This is a slow-paced Sunday walk book in my eyes and I am content to take it slow.
I could spend the next 10 hours sharing quotes with you because every word is worthy of sharing. However, what has touched my heart may not be the thing that touches yours because we are all in different places in our lives. This is why I encourage you to read this book and allow the words to penetrate your heart in the way that can only happen for you.
I do want to share a couple of quotes that have deepened my love and commitment to studying this great gift from the Master.
"The Atonement of Jesus Christ outweighs, surpasses, and transcends every other mortal event, every new discovery, and every acquisition of knowledge, for without the Atonement all else in life is meaningless."
"Satan has been successful in diverting much of the Christian world's attention from the one doctrine that can save us, the Atonement of Jesus Christ, to the ancillary doctrines that have meaning only because they draw their sustenance from this redeeming event. Like a skilled magician, Satan's every move is to divert our attention and dilute our focus from the primary object at hand, namely Christ's atoning sacrifice, in hopes we will turn exclusively to doctrines of secondary and far lesser import."
I know that Christ atoned for our sins. I know that our relationship with the Savior is THE MOST IMPORTANT relationship we will ever have. I know that He loves me and He loves you. He will always be there for you and you can trust Him.
I am loving my second chance at life.
