Today my message is short and sweet.
That is for 2 reasons:
1. I am enjoying summer and feeling a little on the lazy side when it
comes to blogging.
2. I don't need a lot of words to express my testimony of the plan of salvation.
I know that we lived in heaven before we came to this earth. While we were there, Heavenly Father presented a plan of happiness to us in which we would be able to come to earth, have life experiences (both good and bad), learn how to become like Him (if we choose to), and grow to reach our potential. This plan included His giving to us our agency--the freedom to choose for ourselves. However, because of the perfect nature of God, we wouldn't be able to live with Him again after this earthly experience unless there was a Savior, a Redeemer, an Advocate, who could make up for our shortcomings because...
"...No unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end." (3 Nephi 27:19)
Enter our Savior, Jesus Christ. He said, "Father, send me. I will help my brothers and sisters return to Thee.
I will be an advocate for them."
We shouted with joy and praised His name because we knew that yes, this was the thing that we wanted.
This is what would make us truly happy.
And so, we are here.
Learning, growing, trying, failing and succeeding, but hopefully always progressing towards heaven--towards our Savior and our Father.
I Lived in Heaven- General Conference April 2014
Ok, so this post ended up being a little longer than I originally anticipated, BUT, friends! I know what I have said is true! We lived in heaven before we came here. We are here to progress, be humble, repent, and do good. When we die, we will enter into the rest of our Savior and return to our Father (and Mother) who love us very much.
Here is a great graphic that describes the plan of salvation (AKA plan of happiness) a little better...and with less words. I'm too much of a rambler for my own good.
In past years I have shared songs that are more readily thought of when pondering the pioneers journey, but today I wanted to share this song because their journey came down to one thing...their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Think About It.
Why would they not just give in to those who were persecuting them and say, "You're right. I know that the things that Joseph Smith has testified of sound crazy. I know that the Book of Mormon can't possibly have been translated by this man with a 3rd grade education. He had to have just made it up." Their families were being killed. Their homes were being burned to the ground. Why subject themselves to this loss and chaos? Why not just give in to the world around them and live like "normal" people?
They Could Not Do It.
In Christ Alone.
In Christ alone they found their courage, their strength to press forward. They could not deny their testimonies and so they moved onward with faith.
This past week, our class studied the first paragraph of The Family: A Proclamation to the World". There is a lot of great info in that one little paragraph and as I mentioned earlier, I was struggling to know exactly what the Lord needed me to share with the dozens of people who read my blog. (A quick shout out to my family and close friends who have stuck with me and my ramblings this far. Thank you so much for your support!)
Before I continue, allow me to share the first paragraph with you...
WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children.
Again, so many wonderful truths contained in that paragraph, but the one that I would like to focus on today is learned in the very last two words...
We are His children, created in His image, and He loves us.
And because we are His children, He has blessed us with prophets, apostles, and most importantly, a Savior. All whom have taught us and continue to teach us the things that we need to do in order to live with God again.
"Because our Father loves his children, he will not leave us to guess about what matters most in this life concerning where our attention could bring happiness or our indifference bring sadness...We can expect that God won't just tell us a few interesting things about the family; he will tell us what a family ought to be and why."
I Am a Child of God
And now a challenge for you...
*If you have not asked God if you are truly His child, DO IT. What are you waiting for?
I am loving my second chance at life.
