This semester I took a class entitled, "Teachings of the Living Prophets". Guys...did you know that we have a living prophet here, on the earth today? A man who is called of God, just like Moses? It's true! I testify of that. I have had many personal, sacred experiences that have helped me to know that the Lord reveals His will to a living prophet today.
I also know that we have Apostles on the earth today who have the sacred obligation of testifying of the Savior Jesus Christ. Just like Paul and Peter during the time that the Savior was on the earth, we have ordinary men who have been called of God to do great and marvelous things.
QUOTES ON AGENCY:
President M. Russell Ballard, October 2010 General Conference, "O That Cunning Plan of the Evil One"
We make countless choices in life, some large and some seemingly small. Looking back, we can see what a great difference some of our choices made in our lives. We make better choices and decisions if we look at the alternatives and ponder where they will lead. As we do, we will be following President Russell M. Nelson's counsel to begin with the end in mind. For us, the end is always on the covenant path through the temple to eternal life, the greatest of all the gifts of God" (para 19).
…God desires, expects, and directs that each of His children choose for himself or herself. He will not force us. Through the gift of agency, God permits His children 'to act for themselves and not to be acted upon.' Agency allows us to choose to get on the path, or not. It allows us to get off, or not. Just as we cannot be forced to obey, we cannot be forced to disobey. No one can, without our cooperation, take us off the path. (Now, this is not to be confused with those whose agency is violated. They are not off the path; they are victims. They receive God's understanding, love, and compassion.)" (para 19).
What a gift and a blessing our agency is. Think about it. God gave us the gift of agency so we could choose for ourselves…in every aspect of our lives. He will not force us to choose Him. He hopes that we will, but He will never force us to. That shows me how much He loves and trusts me. It also shows me that He is cheering for me and encouraging me to use my agency wisely.
It gives me great power knowing that I chose to follow the Savior before I came to this earth. If I chose Him once, then I can absolutely choose Him again! God’s gift of agency will help me do this. In the quote I shared from Elder Scott, he talked about how our agency is linked with prayer and aligning our will to God’s will. Some people may think that this idea of aligning to God’s will is Him forcing us to choose what He wants us to do. If you look at it from an eternal perspective, you can see that by aligning our will with God’s will, we are actually choosing what will be best for us in the long run. He can see all, and He knows all. Doesn’t it make sense to follow counsel and guidance from someone who knows all and can see all? It’s not about losing our agency when we choose to align ourselves with God’s will. It’s about exercising our agency wisely to give ourselves the best outcome for every situation in our lives.
I am loving my second chance at life.
