Because He Lives...I always have a best friend who understands exactly how I am feeling.
Because He Lives...I have an older brother who has set the perfect example for me to follow and emulate.
Because He Lives...I can repent when I make mistakes and fall short. He will lift me back up and help me to do better.
Because He Lives...I don't have to carry hard burdens by myself.
Because He Lives...I don't have to worry about things that I am unsure of. I trust that God has a plan for everyone and everything. I know that He loves every single person on this planet regardless of any label placed upon them.
Because He Lives...we will live again.
I invite you to watch this beautiful video presentation about Jesus Christ. I promise that no matter what religion you belong to, this video will bring you comfort and hope.
Just to be clear. I don't ever write a blog post without first giving it some serious thought and making it a matter of prayer. You see, when God gave me a second chance at life, I knew there would never be a way that I could fully repay him for this generous gift. I could, however, make a promise to Him that I would serve him more fully. I promised Him that I would be an instrument in His hands for good, that I would share the gospel of Jesus Christ in any way that I could. So each time I write, particularly on this website, I do it with God in mind.
This does not mean that the words that I say are in any way, shape, or form, directly from Him.
They are my words that have come about through periods of reflection and prayer. You are free to take them or leave them. My only hope is that maybe something I say will inspire you to find out God's will for you.
Today I want to talk a bit about asking questions. When you have a question about something, where do you turn? When my kids come to me with a question about a historical event or something of that nature, we usually turn to Google to help us out. Isn't this day and age we are living in wonderful in that respect? The answers for a lot of our questions are literally at our fingertips.
What if my kids come to me with a question of spiritual nature? What if I have a question about something spiritual? What if there is something in the doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ that I just don't understand? Where do I go to have those questions answered?
Yes, I have questions. Yes, I wonder why this has to be this way and that has to be that way. If I didn't have questions, then I would never learn anything. God wants us to ask questions. The trick sometimes comes in finding the answers, His answers, to those questions that burn within us.
Do I turn to the all-knowing Google for answers to my spiritual questions? Not usually. Google did not create my spirit. God did. So therefore, I like to go directly to the source. We have been blessed with the right, the opportunity, and the great blessing of asking God directly through prayer. If we take our questions to God and humbly ask Him to help us understand, He will. It may not be immediate. It may not be the answer that we thought we would receive. It may very well be an answer that we completely disagree with. That is when we have to humble ourselves even more, through fasting and prayer, and plead with God to help us understand His will and doctrine more fully.
This is not easy.
It is not easy to exercise faith in something that we just don't understand; to say, "Okay, I don't really know how or why this needs to be this way, but I will follow your advice anyway."
No, it is not easy, but God has never said that life would be easy. I know that the times in my life that have been the hardest are the times when I have grown and learned the most. I still struggle with answers that I have received and hope that as I try to exercise more faith in God's plan, the doubts that I have will be erased and I will be able to move forward knowing that things will be alright in the end.
Now a plea...can we please be patient with each other as we all try to figure things out? We all have questions. We all have opinions. We all have different ways in which the Spirit teaches us. We have to be patient with ourselves and each other.
We have to be willing to say, "You know, I don't agree with what you are saying, but I love and respect you anyway." We have to lay our differences aside and not fuel the fires of contention. Our questions of a spiritual nature cannot and will not be answered in the midst of contentious circumstances.
I will close with a quote from Ezra T. Benson. One of my favorite people ever.
"Faith in Him means believing that even though we do not understand all things, He does. We, therefore, must look to Him 'in every thought; doubt not, fear not."
Okay everyone. I need a little assistance here.
As I have been researching this whole world of becoming an author, I find myself getting more and more discouraged. I knew this was going to be a hard road to head down, but I am not a stranger to hard roads. I plan on continuing down this path because I know that this is something that I need to do. I just don't know what to do with it quite yet. The answer will come, eventually.
One of the things that I know for sure is that publishers like to publish things for people who have support. They want to know that people are going to be buying this book that they will be publishing. Most of the time they look at the amount of followers someone has on their blog or Facebook. The numbers that they are looking for are in the thousands. Which, I do not have, nor do I care. I am not interested in begging for followers or getting caught up in the numbers game.
What I would like to know is this...how many people are actually interested in reading a book written by yours truly? This is something I would like to know for two reasons...
1- When I send it in to another publishing company, it would be nice to give them some solid numbers.
2- If I choose to go the self-publishing route, I would love to have a general idea of how many copies I would need to have made. Obviously, this would be a big investment on my part and I don't want to have more copies made then what I need.
So here is where I need your help. I have a little survey below that will take 30 seconds to complete. I will love you forever and always if you could let me know what you think about this book writing adventure, even if you would like to say, no thanks. I promise, it will not hurt my feelings. :)
Thank you, thank you, a million times, thank you!!
I am loving my second chance at life.
